Underground Water Storage Tanks
Underground water storage tanks are not a new idea, water has been stored underground for many thousands of years.
Some advantages are obvious while others are more subtle:
- Out of sight - they take up no surface space
- Can be supplied by gravity - minimising the need for pumps to supply the tank with water
- The water is kept at a steady 6 deg C - preventing algae growth or similar water born pest
- The water is in complete darkness - preventing algae growth further
However, there are also some disadvantages associated with underground tank installations:
- Higher installation costs - due to excavation costs - we recommend shallow underground, tanks to reduce this excavation cost
- Significant disruption is caused to the garden during installation
- Health and safety - water tanks can be dangerous - they should be kept closed at all times - only experienced installers or maintenance engineers should perform work on them
