Underground Tanks

Underground Water Storage Tanks

Underground water storage tanks are not a new idea.  Water has been stored underground for many thousand of years.  Some advantages are obvious while others are more subtle.  The positives of storing water below ground are simple to list

  • Out of site
  • Because the tank is below ground it is easier to run water via gravity to the tank
  • The water is kept at a steady 6 degrees preventing algae growth or similar water born pest
  • The water is in complete darkness so again the water can be stored without the risk of algae

However there are disadvantages associated with tank installations below ground and in many situations we would suggest that it is better to store water above ground or if you are storing water below ground then use a low level below ground tank

The disadvantages

  • Higher installation costs
  • Major disruption in the garden while being installed
  • Health and safety Water tanks are dangerous.  They need to be kept closed at all times and only experienced installers or maintenance engineers should ever remove the lid.
  • Never enter an underground tank
